So as many of you know, Joe and I are expecting our first baby this coming February! It has really been the most incredible journey so far and I want to share as much as possible with all of you future mamas! Weeks 14-20 were TOTALLY different than my first trimester in so many ways. Every day something is changing whether it be my body, my mind, my cravings, you name it. It is amazing how our bodies are able to create a beautiful little life and take care of them for 40 weeks until they are ready to meet the rest of the world!
Before you continue to read, I just want to let you know that every pregnancy is so different. Each and every person goes through this journey in their own way and that is ok! I am simply telling you about my experience in hopes that it may be helpful to you or someone you know that is expecting. I do find myself still comparing my pregnancy to others and I shouldn't because my body is going to do whatever it takes to keep that baby safe until February and I need to appreciate and be thankful for that. It can be hard to keep that mindset but every time I find myself comparing my pregnancy to others, I immediately stop and put my mind to something more productive.
So first let me start off by saying that no one ever told me that you were actually pregnant for 10 months. You're probably like what? Yes, you are pregnant for 40 weeks which is 10 months. Today I am currently 20 weeks and 1 day which puts me right at the half way mark! Baby still has so much growing to do but has come so far. I have absolutely loved the app called The Bump during my pregnancy. It gives me daily facts and weekly updates on the baby and my body changes. Right now I only see the doctor once a month so it's nice to read up or research online when things are happening to my body. It puts my mind at ease!
Week 14 was when the nausea and extreme hunger started to subside. Thank the lord because I thought it was never going to end! I remember saying to Joe one night, "I don't know if I could ever do this again" and now thinking back, I would do it all over in a heartbeat. We have so much love for this little bean it is unreal. Am I nervous and anxious for labor? Of course! But I am so excited for our future and our growing family and that makes all of the worries go away (until I watch other YouTube video of someone giving birth in their car LOL).
Week 14 was a big shift for me because not only was I feeling better physically, but emotionally. I didn't really feel like myself in the first trimester. It is hard to describe, but I just didn't feel like me and it was strange. Now most days I forget that I am pregnant unless I look down. :)
I am working out four times a week and am really proud of myself! Most days I don't want to, but I push myself because at the end of the workout I am so happy and actually full of energy. I am doing mix of cardio and light weight training for 30-45 mins. I could probably do a little more but for now that is what my body can take and I am going to do my best to continue it throughout my whole pregnancy.
As far as eating, I would say I went from eating 80/20 (80% healthy and 20% indulge) to 70/30. My breakfast and lunch are healthy but dinner has been tough because I am loving carbs. I try most days to eat healthy but yah girl wants pasta! Either way, I am happy with my progress and feel pretty good so I am going to keep going with it.
It wasn't until week 18 when I started to actually show. I had a small baby bump and my jeans were really uncomfortable to wear. For two weeks I did the hair tie trick (where you use a hair tie around the button of your jeans and loop it around the hole so you have more room for the belly) but as soon as week 20 hit I officially popped. I had a noticeable bump for real! Yesterday I bought my first pair of maternity jeans and they are amazing! I wanted to splurge but decided that I would save the splurge for after I have the baby and am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I went with these babies that are under $30! I got a dark wash jean and a black denim. I will be living in these this winter.
Some other random things that have changed are....
Sleeping - I cannot sleep on my stomach anymore so I toss and turn a bit at night. Laying on my back is actually more comfortable than my side but they tell you not to lay on your back for too long because it could cause problems.
My Boobs - holy moly are they huge. Thankfully they don't hurt anymore but I have gone up at least three cups sizes for sure! It's weird because I actually liked my small, B sized boobs and it's an adjustment to my wardrobe for sure!
Nighttime Routine - I make sure whatever I put on my face & body is safe so I am staying away from any anti-aging or wrinkle treatments. I spoke to my dermatologist and the cream I use for acne is sulfur based so it is safe so I put that on at night and also use Josie Maran Argan Oil as my moisturizer. For my body I am using either Palmer's Stretch Mark cream or Bio Oil from my chest down to my thighs. I am just preparing for the worst and I have no idea if I will get stretch marks so better to be safe than sorry!
That's it for now. I plan on posting another update around week 25! Next week, we find out the if its a boy or a girl!! Any guesses?! Leave it in the comment section!
