Easy Baby Puree Recipes: Stage 1 & 2

OK, so your baby is ready for solids. Now what? So many different things went through my mind when our pediatrician told us Joey was ready for solids at 4 months. We were excited and nervous at the same time for this new milestone. There are so many different approaches to feeding and after giving it a lot of thought, starting with purees was the best decision for us. We will probably start to introduce Baby Led Weaning (BLW) around 7 months but for now, I am having so much fun making purees!

I now work three days a week from home, so I am spending a good amount of time in the house and really wanted to make everything homemade for Joey. I wasn't sure if I was going to stick with it, but here we are more than two months later and I am still making all of his purees from scratch. To make it super simple for any mamas out there, I complied a list of super easy puree recipes that Joey loved. I separated them into Stage 1 & 2.

If you want to follow my Pinterest account too, I save tons of baby recipes & other fun things!

FYI, I am currently doing everything organic for Joey :)

Stage 1 Purees:

Basically, stage 1 is single food purees mixed with your liquid of choice. I use breast milk, but you can use formula or water. The main reason for introducing single foods is so you can monitor your baby for any allergies. Below are some of the first foods Joey tried and loved!

  • Oatmeal or rice cereal

  • Banana

  • Carrots

  • Sweet Potato

  • Peas

  • Green Beans

  • Blueberries

Stage 2 Purees:

Now comes the fun and you can start mixing foods! You can also make your purees thicker in texture as well. Here are four recipes that were easy to make and store!

Sweet Potato, Apple & Cinnamon

  • Bake 1-2 sweet potato in the oven at 425 for 40 minutes. Peel and then put in blender

  • Add 1 peeled, apple ( I actually put them in raw but you can steam them to make them more soft)

  • Sprinkle in some cinnamon

Pear, Spinach & Peas

  • Peel and slice 1 pear (raw)

  • Boil frozen peas over stove for 10-15 minutes or until soft

  • Handful of spinach

  • Add all together and blend!

Spinach, Sweet Potato & Chickpea

  • Use 1/2 can of chickpeas

  • Bake 1-2 sweet potatoes in the oven at 425 for 40 minutes. Peel and add to blender

  • Handful of spinach

Rasberry, Apple & Vanilla

  • Add 2 cups of water to a pot over the stove

  • 1 cup of frozen raspberries

  • 1 peeled and cut apple

  • Let simmer for 15-20 minutes or until fruit is soft

  • Add to blender with a few drops of vanilla extract

Here are a few other easy combinations that you can do to give them a variety of foods:

  • Banana & Avocado

  • Carrot & Zucchini

  • Banana & Mango

  • Yogurt (at 6+ months) with a purred fruit like blueberries or strawberries

I will be sharing more recipes as I make them for Joey too! Here are the containers I use to store them. They are 2oz portions that you can put in the fridge or freezer!

Hope you enjoyed and were inspired to make your little one some delicious meals!
