ALL YOU CAN EAT, GREEK

If you follow my Instagram account (@ontothenexttrend), you can tell that I am slightly obsessed with the beautiful country of Greece and had the most amazing time on our honeymoon! I have so many exciting things to post like what to do, where to stay, outfits to wear and of course WHAT TO EAT! Today, this post is about all the yummy food we ate and the dishes you have to get while in Greece! Hope your mouth is watering after this read 😊

Cappuccino/Iced Cappuccino

Every morning, I have a 20oz regular coffee with a little bit of french vanilla creamer. It’s nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Whenever I am away or on vacation, I am always in the mood for a special coffee drink like a latte or a cappuccino. In Greece, they have AMAZING cappuccino’s and also have them iced! They are so fresh and taste out of this world. I had either a hot or cold one every single day. If you love caffeine like me, do yourself a favor and splurge the €4 on one.

The Traditional Greek Salad

Yes, you must get the traditional Greek salad. I ended up only ordering it once because I wanted to try new things and it was so worth it! It was basically a feta cheese salad with a garnish of greens lol. They add fresh tomato, cucumber, olives, peppers and croutons and it was SOO delicious!

THE GYRO

Before Greece, I never had a gyro in my life and did not know what all of the hype was about. The gyro is a staple dish in Greece and is dirt cheap (great quick stop for lunch or a snack on-the-go). Joe would usually get sausage or pork and I always stuck with chicken. They come in either a wrapped pita, or you can get a plated portion and have all of the fixings you like! Typically, the normal gyro is meat, tomato, lettuce and potatoes. They also would always have an amazing sauce to dip it in!! One of the places we got Gyro's in Santorini is called Let's Eat - Souvlaki.

Feta Cheese in Phyllo & Honey Drizzle

This was the icing on the cake for me. I MEAN LOOK AT IT! This is one of the more popular appetizers in Greece and if you like cheese, you will die over this! It is basically a whole block of feta cheese, wrapped in phyllo dough and baked in the oven so it’s nice and warm. Then, they drizzle it in honey and sesame seeds for a nice crunch. It was the best meal I had on the trip! Joe hates cheese (weird I know) so I ended up having this whole hunk of cheese to myself. Here are also a few pics of the dinner we had in Mykonos at Rouvera Restaurant.

GELATO

I have been to Milan a few times for work and was lucky enough to get a few days to roam the city and of course, try the gelato. For some reason, I always thought Italy was known for gelato and had the best. Well, after enjoying this beauty I would say it's a fair tie. The gelato was creamy, rich and so flavorful! This night in Mykonos, we got Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Brownie. The restaurant is called Trio Bambino and is in Little Venice or what the locals call "Mykonos town."

So in short, when in Greece here are the top five foods you must give a try:

1. Gyro

2. Feta Cheese Baked in Phyllo

3. Gelato

4. Red/White Wine (even the house brands are delicious and only about €6)

5. Greek Salad

BONUS! Here are a few more pics of some drinks & food we ate during our honeymoon.

Drinks at Royal Myconian Resort

Red Sangria and Snacks at Scorpios Mykonos

Cheese Pie Appetizer at Kapari Restaurant in Santorini

I hope you enjoyed!!
